In 1781, General John Stark gave his famous “Live free or die” speech in Concord before leading his forces into battle against the British during the Revolutionary War.

Alton has the smallest number of people at 2,035 residents. Center Harbor is centrally located between Meredith and Moultonborough on Route 25 at the western end of Lake Winnipesaukee. Tuftonboro is situated to the north of Wolfeboro, and Moultonborough lies to the south of Wolfeboro along Rte. 109A, which connects Meredith to Wolfeboro. Moultonborough has about 66 miles of shoreline, and Alton has 33 miles.
