Our little town of Meredith, NH was buzzing with excitement this past weekend. Hotels, inns, pubs and restaurants were packed with players and spectators of the New England Pond Hockey Classic.
It was a tough start considering the blizzard we had right before the big event but even snow flurries and subzero temperatures couldn’t deter the crowds; there were approximately 1,800 fanatics and over 250 teams out on Meredith Bay for this year’s Winnipesaukee Classic. Twenty-four perfectly placed rinks dotted the shoreline to host almost 600 games that started Friday Jan 30-February 1st. Teams from all over North America came to Meredith, NH for what is now one of the most popular hockey tournaments in the country.
It’s truly wonderful to see everyone come together for a fun filled weekend. A lot of our natives are out there installing, manicuring and dismantling the rinks. More and more restaurants are on the ice selling food and drinks, offering shuttle services and even at some restaurants you receive a discount for wearing your Pond Hockey Classic gear. Judging from all the smiles you can tell everyone was loving our town of Meredith and the beautiful Lakes Region.
Round of applause for Scott Crowder, the workers and volunteers that help make this growing event such a success!
