Gilford—On Saturday, August 24th the town of Gilford, NH hosted the 94th annual Gilford Old Home Day. It was an absolutely perfect, bright, sunny day where a multitude of residents of all ages came out and participated in the all day activities, starting with the parade at 10 a.m. and culminating in a band concert and a major fireworks display in Gilford Village. What an amazing event this has turned into over the years. This special day featured the annual 5K road race, as well as children’s fun races. The day began with a pancake breakfast, and included all kinds of events and activities for children and adults to participate in. One interesting event was the pie-eating contest, watching residents of all ages dig in and create a real mess! There certainly was an abundance of food, with a long line at the fried dough concession. Watching all the children run
around after dark with glow sticks and glow stick necklaces was most nostalgic. Many of the homes in the village had parties entertaining friends and acquaintances for this traditional event which marks the end of summer. This is another reason why so many of the small towns and villages surrounding Lake Winnipesaukee offer such an amazing lifestyle. Think about it—Gilford with its huge natural sandy town beach, town docks, and Gunstock Ski Area in its backyard offers activities for every season… it’s another reason why so many of us love calling it home. Hats off to all the hardworking organizers and volunteers in this outstanding community event, it was the best!
