The geographic center of New Hampshire is located in the Eastern part of New Hampton, between Winona Lake and Jackson Pond. It’s literally the gateway to New Hampshire’s Lakes Region off of Interstate I-93 and State Routes 104 and 132 at exit 23. New Hampton is a quiet community with a small-town atmosphere. Meredith and Lake Winnipesaukee are only 8 miles East, Laconia is 12 miles Southeast, Concord is 30 miles South, and Newfound Lake is 12 miles West.
This old New England town features many original homes and rural woodlands. There’s a mix of homesteads from attractive ranches to capes, contemporaries, and 19th-century colonials, lining the village area. The Caspel Museum is locally known as the historic townhouse, and the Dana Meeting House is a step back in time, built in the early 1800s. The Steeple of New Hampton community church, located in the common, can be seen from a distance. The Gordon Nash Library was the first public library in Belknap County, established in 1895. Many old stone walls, hillside views, capes, open fields, and small farms surround the village. Huckins Farm is a 200+ year-old Grade A dairy farm. Maple Creamery Café and Market offers amazing maple syrup, homemade maple ice cream, and cider donuts. Torsey’s Hillcrest Maple Farm is a member of the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association.
New Hampton enjoys frontage on Lake Waukewan, a pristine 928-acre lake. The smaller Lake Winona, at 148 acres, and Lake Pemigewasset, at 249 acres, offer public swimming and boating access. The town features the George Duncan Forest, 110 acres, and the Sky Pond State Forest, 127 acres, with scenic trails and hikes to the summits. The Pemigewasset River flows through town, with kayaking access and swimming spots. The New Hampshire Nature Fitness Trail is located along the river.
New Hampton is home to the New Hampton School, a prestigious, private, preparatory school established in 1821. The scenic 340-acre campus features a variety of facilities and outdoor recreation and sports complexes. The school enrolls approximately 330 students from over 30 states and 22 countries. Throughout the town, you will find numerous snowmobile trails (a popular winter sport) through marked forests, meadows, and hills. There are a number of campgrounds and RV parks scattered throughout the community. You can grab a seat and a bite to eat at the Route 104 Diner, a popular retro 1950s style diner, Rossi’s Italian restaurant, the BBQ Shack and Smokehouse, Subway, or the Homestead restaurant just up the road in Bristol.
New Hampton was granted in 1765 by Governor Wentworth, originally known as “Moultonborough Addition,” and later changed the name to New Hampton in 1777 when it was incorporated. In 1920, the New Hampton Fish Hatchery (the state’s oldest) was established in town. The town has a total of 38.4 square miles, of which 36.8 square miles are land and 1.6 square miles are water. The highest point is 2,001 feet at the peak of Hershey Mountain, bordering Sanbornton. The population is approximately 2,484, a bit higher than the 652 residents in 1790. The current population ranks 130th among New Hampshire cities and towns. The town has a full-time police department and an on-call fire department. The population density is 66 persons per square mile of land area. New Hampton Community School serves students in grades K-5 and is part of the Newfound Area School District. The Newfound Memorial Middle School and Newfound Regional High Schools are located in nearby Bristol.

Its location directly off I-93 makes it ideal for commuters enjoying the Lakes Region and being within 30 minutes to New Hampshire’s finest ski resorts. You can see from the above that New Hampton is on the rise, going from a median sales price of $357,220 in 2021 to $539,500 in 2025 year to date. With only 10 months of sales volume this year, it is the highest amount over the past five years at $17,834,600. Like all small Lakes Region communities, there is a lack of available inventory, with only 7 active listings for sale.
